01 Development Cooperation
The concept of development cooperation has no single and complete definition and may depend on the area and priorities of development to be taken in consideration when starting a project.
In general, it is the set of actions undertaken by public and private actors, between countries of different income levels to promote economic and social progress of the South countries, so that there is a more balanced and sustainable relationship with Northern countries. Is not synonymous of official development assistance (ODA) or humanitarian aid. People may receive the assistance directly or through their state, local government or NGOs in the area.
Development cooperation is made up of different kinds of organizations, public and private, general and specialized, North and South and in different forms and strategies.
The areas covered by international cooperation are varied. Among others are the following:
- improve health
- improve education
- improve environmental conditions
- reduce social and economic inequalities
Among the possible lines of action and initiatives to develop in favor of youth:
- The achievement of decent living conditions, by covering the basic needs of young people.
- The protection, promotion, awareness and promoting human rights, focused on youth as a very vulnerable sector.
- The equitable integration of young women, advocacy and participation in all sectors.
- Support for cultural and linguistic specificity of indigenous and ethnic youth minorities as well as overcoming discrimination today.
- Ensuring food security for rural communities.
- Strengthening the social integration, organizational and institutional development of local democratic youth participation.
- The protection of biodiversity, organic and sustainable agriculture by supporting youth local organizations involved in these projects.
- The strengthening of local communication networks, to raise awareness of the youth of the South and engage them in their own development processes.
- The rehabilitation of the economic, social, institutional youth activities, as well as the local infrastructure after natural disasters or armed conflicts.
